VT Volunteer appeal 2020

Vintage Trains have made an appeal for volunteers to help Vintage Trains and Tyseley Locomotive Works to come back stronger and faster from the current shutdown.

The Community Benefit Society (the charitable co-operative society which not only oversees the Vintage Trains train operating company but also raises funds to improve the Tyseley depot and so the local community) Board of Directors is already made up of volunteers, together with train stewards, engine and carriage cleaning gangs that offer support through Friends of Vintage Trains, but more help is needed. Below is a list of skills that are missing .

  • General office administration
  • Database and spreadsheet creation
  • Managing and providing content for social media channels
  • Marketing
  • Web site design, content and management
  • Sales skills and/or management
  • Customer Management
  • Systems
  • Train planning
  • Telephone answering
  • Onboard personnel for safety and passenger care once services recommence
  • Individuals with a business network in Birmingham/West Midlands
  • Individuals with a strong rail industry network

Plus artistic skills in:

  • Story telling
  • Artwork – particularly illustrations
  • Communication and presentation

The latter skills are needed to continue to build and connect with the younger generation, creating interesting stories as to why steam is so important and relevant, as well as presenting these stories to other groups.

If you have the skills and would like to donate some time to help secure the future of Vintage Trains and the Tyseley Locomotive Works, please complete this contact form which will send your details to the Vintage Trains volunteer co-ordinator, who will contact you soon:

Details that you provide to us will be stored securely and will only be used to respond to your query. They will not be passed on to any other organisation.
