We were invited to visit the SVR’s Bridgnorth Engine Shed on Wednesday 4 September 2024. This very popular visit was limited to 20 places so this was one of the few occasions when we were unable to offer guest places for this visit. We are very grateful for them undertaking time out of their busy schedule to show us the work that they are undertaking.
Especially interesting was hearing about their apprenticeship scheme which is so vital if we are all to ensure that there are the skills and knowledge for the future. Unsurprisingly the one glaring problem is the turnover at the end of the apprenticeships. Just how do we keep these highly skilled people when there is so much demand throughout the heritage railway world? Answers on a postcard please ….
